Low Drives and Drops

Keeping The Ball LOW

Two Handed Backhand Counter 🔥

3 Key Points for 2 handed counter:

  1. Keep an open stance position. Do NOT completely close your body to the court. It will take too long to get back into an open stance for the recounter

  2. Lean your dominant shoulder into the court. Do NOT pull up when hitting this shot

  3. Let your arms swing through the ball. Be as loose as possible. Do NOT tense your arms and wrists when hitting the shot.

Low Drives and Low Drops đź‘Ť

  • Many people believe that hitting hard drives will increase the chance of their opponent missing the ball. This may be the case in certain situations (if the return is a slow and high), but this is not the case on average. The best shots in pickleball are those that cross the net at a low point. If you are able to consistently hit the ball a foot over the net your opponent will have to hit up on the ball. If you are hitting at 100% power every time, the likelihood of hitting your target decreases significantly. This is why “bangers” have a tough time winning as the level of play increases. There comes a time when no matter how hard you hit the ball it is going to come back. That is why low and consistent drops and drives are much more effective over time.
