Pronation on the serve with Max 👍

If you’re struggling with consistency on the serve, try reinforcing the windshield wiper motion by making sure the side of the paddle that hit the ball is facing your target for the duration of the follow through. Too many people flick their wrist wildly, or angled too down, causing inconsistent grab on the ball. If you can’t do this, it is almost definitely because your motion is too low-to-high, or your hitting it too close to your body. It’s a very linear stroke, I’m only raising my arm at the very end.

More from Maxwell - lobbing plans? 👀

Are we lobbing in 2025? In men’s doubles, yes. I haven’t figured how to best do it in mixed yet, I think it’s probably easier to pull off for righty’s who play in front of the girl. It might even be harder to lob in pro women’s doubles because the players are usually off the kitchen line? Maybe we would know, if girls talked to us. I’m talking topspin lobs, not as much slice. The main key to selling a good lob is to not pull your body up too early - that’s the biggest queue for your opponent to take a step off the line.

I find it easier to hit flick lobs out of the air than off the bounce. I think this is personal preference, I’ve seen a lot of good forehand off the bounce lobs. In my opinion, the best time to bring it out is if you’re posing a threat to bag the person in front of you. A lot of people slow down their feet if they’re anticipating a body shot, making them susceptible to lob. AWLAYS lob over the backhand side of someone, whether you’re going down the line or cross court. For example if you’re on the right, (assuming both opponents are righty) your spots are down your line and through the middle, if you can keep it out of the left siders reach. If you really want to learn how to lob watch Callan Dawson for 15 mins on YouTube.
